Charlie Mortdecai coming sooner than what firstly expected

The movie released two weeks earlier than what said in a first time

The arrival of Charlie Mortdecai, art dealer born by the pen of Kyril Bonfiglioli, will be released two weeks earlier than what said and written previously. Johnny Mortdecai

The move will put the film against the new movie targeted Jennifer Lopez: “The boy next door“.

Lionsgate will move The Age of Adeline from january 23 to april 24 2015.

This movie is based on the latest Mortdecai unfinished book: The Great Mortdecai Moustache Mystery and not as previously I had thought and written on The Mortdecai Trilogy.

This book has been completed later by Craig Brown and published after Bonfiglioli’s departure in 1999.

In total Kyril Bonfiglioli had written four books involving Charlie Mortdecai’s adventures. In a previous book:All the tea in China an ancestor of the same Charlie Mortdecai was in action.

In this story Charlie will travel the world. The main story is this stolen painting. This painting maybe can contain a secret code to a hidden cache of Nazi gold.

Who is Charlie Mortdecai? A man of 50 and something, very distinguish, with some prostate problems, incredibly rich and sophisticated, absolutely amoral and with a passion for strong liquors, book bags when he travels, very good clothes, and a canary. Ironic, sarcastic, he is elegant, and very intelligent. An art dealer of a secure uncertain reputation. Charlie is selfish and he doesn’t mind for other people. He is pretty sly and confident on himself and more important he is surrounded by people like him with his own same “mental scheme”. He has his own habits and tics. He is constantly followed by his loyal butler Jock.

A comparison with PG Wodehouse is more than logical because The Mortdecai Trilogy is plenty of important references regarding Wodehouse and the couple Bertie and Jeeves. The two ones have been taken as inspiration by Bonfiglioli although as also said before there are some big differences as well. Charlie Mortdecai couldn’t be at all Bertie but in case a sort of darkest side of Jeeves the butler, much more acute, intense, smart and intelligent than Bertie,  and Jock couldn’t be at all completely a sort of Bertie, although he will become slowly slowly more comical thanks to a terrible incident at the end of the first book of the trilogy.

Mortdecai has been directed last fall by David Koepp previously seen before in another collaboration with Johnny Depp in 2004 as director of “Secret Window”.

If this movie will be a success Johnny Depp  10689585_331028153737501_4307479752506863638_n doesn’t exclude of being back with the rest of the books, giving a complete coverage to Charlie Mortdecai on screen.

Other actors and actresses involved in the Mortdecai production:  Gwyneth Paltrow, Aubrey Plaza, Ewan McGregor, Paul Bettany, Olivia Munn.
