“Happy to keep our young people in our land thanks to this production” declared Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate

The fifth installment of Pirates of the Caribbean, Dead Men tell no Tales will be filmed in Australia and precisely in Queensland.
Johnny Depp 40655894_l 22_19 this time will co-produce Pirates with Disney Studios.

Let’s talk again about this production, reactions and money involved in it.

The federal government of Australia spent $ 21.6 million to keep Disney’s project Pirates in Queensland. Government of Queensland offered an extra package of incentives including payroll tax breaks, although Australians have decided of not revealing the total amount of the final costs.

Australia won the fight against Mexico and South Africa for the shootings. Pre-production started more than a week ago, and Pirates first shooting, it will be a great emotion, next year, on the Gold Coast, Port Douglas and many other areas at high touristic impact. The movie is scheduled to be released on July 2017.

Premier Campbell Newman said the film is the biggest production ever shooted in Australia and it will inject, the government estimated, something like $ 100 million of dollars to the State’s economy creating at the same time thousands of job in the australian movie industry, but not only.

A production like Pirates means tourists and arrival of friends and relatives of all the cast and crew working in the area and so new oxygen to the normal economy of the country because these people will have to go somewhere for having a lunch or a dinner or maybe just for sipping a tea with some cookies for breakfast. Later they will hopefully buy new clothes, some shoes,  souvenirs, postcards and other items to them and their beloved ones. In general it’s the entire economy of a place to breathing new air when a big production like this one afford somewhere.

Premier Campbell Newman added that they tried to attracting big productions the past years. “I can call this project a new impetus to the industry”

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said: “Our film industry and television industry are becoming very important and for our own young people as well. In general in the past they left our places for Sydney or Melbourne where they could have worked better developing much better their career. Now they can do that staying here”. And with great satisfaction, I guess.

Another major production filmed in Queensland has ben San Andreas with Dwayne Johnson. More than 3000 Queensland crew cast and extras contractors, and Angelina Jolie’s movie Unbroken employed 3.200 locals.

The new Pirates will be co-produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and the Infinitum Nihil created by Johnny Depp. It will be directed by Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg s.

The cast of the first Pirates movie involved: Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley.

Screen Queensland CEO Tracey Vieira revealed that the first Queenslander has been hired for the film.

“I am very proud that the first person hired is the production manager, a Queenslander” she said.

“It really let us think that Americans are understanding what it is important to us.”

Ms Vieira, was one of the parts of negotiations since early March. She talks about the incentive package Queensland Government has given for this production.

“A lot of the cast and crew of Queensland is part of that,” said Vieira.

Ms Vieira worked hard to trying to close successfully this contract with Disney.

“A couple of things are important in these cases: you have to work creatively and second thing you have to work financially. If we would be the most expensive ones in the world certainly we wouldn’t be on the radar of American movie industry. Disney searched in various places around for these two things. We really worked for “selling” to them very well our places”. And for pretending that a lot of local people must be employed in the production.

Bravi! And good work to all.
