Sailing the most significant part of Kitt Woodward and his family’s life. And always with a ship called The Rainbow Gipsy

While I was reading some pieces on the website created by Captain Kitt regarding his ship, I thought: “Wow this is suggestive. It’s the never ending dream of a man”.

In fact the story of The Rainbow Gipsy is not so recent.
When was born the idea at captain Kitt to build an important ship like this one?

It was 1978pirate2      and at that time Kitt Woodward  lived in England with his wife Robin. He noticed the wooden hull of a trawler on mudflat.

Great sea lover, he didn’t lose the time. He obtained the possession of the pitch-pine-on-oak Rainbow Gipsy.

After 18 months the ship was ready for sailing again. That ship became de facto the house of Kitt and his family for more than 12 years and they visited a lot of places! starting from the Mediterranean, the West Indies, back to the Mediterranean.
Kitt Woodward sold the ship in 1987 buying a ship long 24 mt, 80 -|b ot, this time a polish vessel.

Once in Australia in 1991 when the family settled down in the Bundaberg-Burnett Heads area the great melancholy for the years spent sailing.

Again Woodward bought another replica for sailing the Queensland Coast. It was sept 19th 1992. More than 120 people have helped Kitt in the realization of this dream collaborating with him and helping him in the various phase of the restoration of the ship.

The ship can contains 25 passengers.
The dream of Kitt was to create an official traditional sail-trailing vessel able to being used for weddings, races etc.
Who knows if Kitt Woodward would have every imagined that this ship would have become one day the most famous ship of the world: The Black Pearl?

Mmmm, maybe no, but Kitt must have had some flashes and premonitions. What do you think looking at this picture of Kitt’s family as a pirate family? Pirates was in their destiny.
