“Whitey”, Johnny and the Bostonian’s accent

I admit it: Johnny’s Whitey Bulger  in the two trailers is very scaring11169829_420837981423184_3709328983864978636_n 11182076_421228178050831_8044029803845486848_n 11182076_421228178050831_8044029803845486848_n(1) aaa.

Very scaring as the real “Whitey” whitey 8 was in the 70s-80s.

Johnny has been able to portray the criminal from South Boston with great cruelty and ferocity.

At the moment the biggest critic of the Bostonians has been: “Yes ok but Johnny doesn’t speak Whitey’s accent”

Johnny can shares these critics with people like Robin Williams, in the city of Boston
many years ago because of the cinematographic transposition of the real story of William Sidis, in the movie called Good Will poster of the movie Hunting Will Hunting 3, with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. The story the one of a genial boy robin and matt bench scene with an unhappy existence.

The movie much more cheerful than not the real life-story of Sidis. robin _ robin williams message robin Williams in Will Hunting

It seems impossible to reach the Bostonian accent from someone not born in the city.

And so, I thought days ago: it’s time.

It was arrived the moment to hearing the real Whitey’s voice for a comparison.

Thanks to The Boston Globe I found a registration of a rare interview with
Bulger (jan 18 2014) inserted in a documentary called “Whitey: United States of America v. James J. Bulger” produced by filmmaker Joe Berlinger. The documentary has been introduced at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah. The conversation of Bulger with his lawyer recorded by the people of the crew of the documentary.

I was waiting for a voice much more terrible, cruel and croaky than the one of Johnny in the movie, accent or not.

A man who had killed a lot of people, with a list of crimes so long couldn’t speak well.

Whitey’s voice is thin. The accent clear.
Hearing Whitey’s voice you have the idea of a pretty sly man, someone with a defensive line clear and that doesn’t want to discuss too much about what he thinks it’s real to him and sometimes maybe I will be wrong, while he was talking, the perception I had, he wanted to be quick and essential.

Whitey remarked he hasn’t never been an informant of the FBI. “No way” he added in the registration of the Globe.

Yes, I thought that that Bostonian accent won’t be found in Johnny’s characterization of Whitey, where the voice is the voice of cruelty, a voice that can’t permit to itself to be gentle, humanizing Whitey Bulger.

A characterization the one of Johnny played under many aspects and with a total “reconstruction” of the mobster that I am sure you will love a lot because Johnny loved to portraying Whitey Bulger.

The movie Black Mass is based on the book Black Mass Black Mass Book Cover Whitey Bulger, the FBI and a devil’s deal written by the two former journalists and writers Dick lehr2sm Lehr and Gerard gerard o'neill O’Neill.

Directed by Scott Cooper  the rest of the cast: Benedit Cumberbatch, Sienna Miller, Jesse Plemons, Kevin Bacon, Dakota Johnson, Joel Edgerton.
