The blog thinks Black Mass is a “sober, sprawling, deeply engrossing evocation of Bulger’s South Boston” and “Depp is fully restored here”.

The Hollywood Reporter: “Convincing and frightening”, “After too many Caribbean vacations, Johnny Depp finally gets back down to some serious business in Black Mass”, and “He’s as charismatic as his character must be” adding: “Depp’s instinct for observing, underlaying and keeping things in, then letting it all out when required, pays big dividends here”. THR is sure of it: “It’s unexpected, very welcome and one of his best movies”.

For the Guardian Black Mass is a “Compelling true drama and a mighty come back for Johnny Depp”.

Johnny Depp during the press conference of yesterday morning, after his arrival at the Laguna with an irish-green jacket said to the press: “I’ve always wanted to be a character actor rather than the poster boy they tried to make me into 100 years ago”.
Talking of Whitey whitey Bulger Depp confessed he requested to meet Bulger but the mobster said Johnny: “Respectfully declined”. Bulger’s attorney J.W. Carney Jr.visited the set. “He could feel his old friend in what I was doing” added Johnny, satisfied.
