The role of  the mobster “Whitey” Bulger in Black Mass couldn’t pass unnoticed at the Palm Spring Awards. In fact the organizers of the event have decided to award Depp with the Desert Palm Achievement Award in the so much expected 27th Palm Springs International Film Festival.

The reason? Depp’s latest movie Black Mass and his convincing role as Jimmy “Whitey” Bulger the South Boston terrible mobster.

For movie critics and from viewers a big return for Johnny Depp.

Directed by Scott Cooper, the movie is based on the book written by Dick Lehr and Gerard O’Neill two former Boston Globe’s investigative reporters: Black Mass, Whitey Bulger, the FBI and a devil’s deal.

“Whitey” Bulger once joined the Winter Hall Gang  became a very powerful criminal.

Later in fact he became an informant of the FBI thanks to his friend and special agent of the FBI John Connolly.

Connolly wanted at first to destroy the italian mafia called Cosa Nostra created by the family Angiulo.

Once defeated it, problem was that “Whitey” became the biggest Prince of the Darkness of South Boston.

Festival Charmain Harold Matzner during a press conference said that in the latest movie Black Mass, Depp “In a stunning transformation, creates a gripping and multi-layered portrait of infamous gangster James ‘Whitey’ Bulger. He delivers an astounding performance that has earned raves from both critics and audiences and is sure to garner awards attention“, reported the prestigious Hollywood Reporter.

The previous Desert Palm Achievement Award victors: Brad Pitt, Bradley Cooper, Matthew McConaughey, Colin Firth, Jeff Bridges,Sean Penn, Eddie Redmayne, Daniel Day-Lewis.

Johnny Depp will receive the Desert Palm Achievement Award during the 27th Palm Springs International Film Festival starting on January 11.

The festival one of the most appreciated ones in the entire North America.
