Posted in Uncategorized by Anna Maria Polidori on October 30, 2018

I was looking on Twitter when I read the news of the death of James “Whitey” Bulger. James Bulger was killed this Tuesday in a prison located in West Virginia.

It is still unknown, who, why committed this crime although in inmate is under investigation told the Daily Mail; the spokewoman is speaking of “Investigations” regarding this crime.

Jimmy Bulger was 89 years old and was freshly arrived in this prison yesterday for later being found “unresponsive” today and although the staff od the prison tried all the best for resuscitating the gangster he was later declared dead.

This one is not the first case in this prison. The main problem; the lack of staff.

Bulger, a life sentece for eleven murders, lived a criminal existence. Writing to some students three years ago, he told them: “I wasted my life,” “I Took the wrong road; adding” a criminal, doesn’t have a legacy for the posterity. Don’t waste your time, as I — we are society’s lower, best forgotten.”
He also added: “My life was wasted and spent foolishly, brought shame and suffering on my parents and siblings and will end soon.”

Let’s see who James Whitey Bulger was. Born in Boston on 1929 son of a family of Irish immigrants, a career in the crime, South Boston became the realm of Jimmy “Whitey” Bulger, a criminal ferocious if compared with the Italian Mafiosi of North Boston. Not a single person lost the existence in North Boston while Bulger didn’t hesitate in killing, spreading various kind of drugs and sufferance. Sometimes also innocent men lost their existences because in the wrong place, in the wrong moment, helping the wrong person for charitable spirit.

The story has seen a brother of Bulger, William, senator, and later President of the State Senate.

At the same time, this one maybe the most corruptive scandal of the entire USA ’til now, the FBI and Bulger became strickly connected; Bulger, although boss of an important gang, became an informant of the FBI thanks to Connolly a common family-friend. Connolly would have wanted to become an important piece in the FBI and thanks to Bulger arrested important esponents of the Italian mafia.

This connection continued.

Bulger and other members of his gang have been protected by the FBI ’till the end; when the wind changed, when the Boston Globe published in an article written by Kevin Cullen that Bulger was an informant of the FBI, it was time to leaving Boston forever.

Bulger at that time shared his existences with two women: one was Catherine Greig. She followed him, the second choice, but the one who stayed close to him ’til the end. The other one was a lady with four children with which Bulger shared most of his existence, but this lady didn’t want to leave his family because the destiny of his man changed by the events. The family was her priority.

Bulger spent the rest of his existence till at the moment of the capture in peace and solitude. He choose as a location Santa Monica, California. He didn’t go out a lot, people remember and maybe he wasn’t a great chatter, but at the same time he wasn’t a bad neighbor.
With the time he made good friendship with people close to him, and everyone started to appreciate this elderly couple; someone remarked also that they didn’t understand why a younger woman like Catherine Greig was, spent time with this man, much more old than her.

The capture of Osama bin Laden meant the end of this new existence, lived in peace, for Bulger, because he became the first in the top ten list of the most wanted criminals of the FBI.

An ex Miss Iceland afforded to Santa Monica, starting to make friendship with this couple.
She enjoyed to help Catherine Greig while she fed stray cats and once returned to Iceland, looking at the CNN she recognized her Santa Monica’s friends, but the names were not the ones she remembered.

She called the FBI and Bulger was soon arrested with Greig. Catherine was happy because of the arrival of police-men because she didn’t know anymore what to invent with neighbors and friends.
Bulger was active in the neighborhood and now his new friends didn’t understand why he started to live secluded by the rest of the world.

From 2011 ’till now Bulger spent all his time in prison. Voracious reader, he received and loved to answer all letters sent to him from the most disparate parts and for the most diversified reasons.

Black Mass was the latest movie released in which Johnny Depp portrayed James Bulger.
In the past there was The Departed, and many more movies and books were inspired by Bulger’s crimes activity.

Bostonians admit: that era is gone forever.

The first of tweeting about the death of the mobster was Michele McPhee.
